Leadership Team
Sharonda Brown-Kern – Founder and Executive Director
I’m honored to be entering my third year serving as Director! With 23 years of experience in early childhood care and education, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles, including teacher, consultant, trainer, and technical assistance provider. This is, by far, my favorite role because it allows me to use my experience and expertise to create and provide a high-quality, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, supported, valued, and empowered to learn and grow.
My experiences growing up have deeply shaped my perspective and strengthened my connection to the families I serve today, many of whom face challenges similar to those my own family experienced. Throughout my education, my grandmother, Rose, was a significant source of support and encouragement. She always encouraged me to do my best in school and reminded me of the importance of believing in myself. In honor of my grandmother and my belief that all children can succeed regardless of their background or where they come from, I established Concrete Rose Learning Center.
I hold a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I am a licensed Professional Educator with endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education. Additionally, I hold a Gateways to Opportunity Director Credential and a Training and Technical Assistance Credential. These experiences and credentials have strengthened my commitment to providing children and families with the support, opportunities, and high-quality early learning experiences they need to thrive.
Instructional Staff
Jennifer Sianis- Teacher and Program Coordinator
I have been working with children in Early Childhood Education for a little more than 2 decades. I am eager to bring developing students an environment of patience and security while challenging them to create their best potential. I have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood education and Philosophy from Roosevelt University. I have completed certification as a Montessori teacher at MMTTC in Evanston (now based in Riverwoods). I am dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of nurturing and helping to create a lifelong love of knowledge in children. In my experience, I have witnessed the process of how a child learns about their worlds and themselves, and how play is a natural way for them to learn problem-solving skills and collaboration, using their creativity and curiosity. I am honored to be involved in this field and to work with young humans. I look to complete my Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology in the next few years as I grow and learn at Concrete Rose Children’s Learning Center.
Melissa Morales, Assistant Teacher
I’m Melissa Morales, a dedicated educator with a passion for nurturing young minds. Having worked extensively with children aged 0-6, I’m committed to helping them build the foundational skills crucial for their future success.
I earned my bachelor’s degree at National Louis University, majoring in Early Childhood Education. I hold a PEL license in the state of IL with an endorsement for a Transitional Bilingual Educator (Spanish). Looking ahead, I aim to further my education by obtaining a Master’s degree with a focus on dual language endorsement and LSB I. This goal aligns with my passion for supporting diverse learning needs and fostering inclusive educational environments.
Outside of my professional and academic pursuits, I enjoy listening to music and drawing, which provide me with creative outlets and relaxation.
Mayzie Beers, Toddler Teacher and Family Support Specialist
Hi! My name is Mayzie, and I’m so excited to be part of the team! I have a passion for working with young children and love creating a fun, nurturing environment where they feel safe, supported, and excited to learn and grow. I also have my bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
Outside of school, I’m a wife and mom to my three-year-old son. We have a dog and a bunny who are very much part of the family! In my free time, I love thrifting, crafting, and finding new ways to be creative. I’m looking forward to getting to know each child and their family and making this a fun and memorable year together!
Erica Rebollar, Assistant Teacher
I’ve always loved working with children and have been doing so for the past two years. It’s such a rewarding experience to watch them grow, learn, and gain confidence throughout the year. One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing the excitement on a child’s face when they learn a new skill or accomplish something that was once challenging for them. Those little moments are what makes this job so special to me. I love creating a positive and supportive environment where children feel encouraged to learn, grow, and be proud of themselves.
Rabia Rashid – Substitute Teacher
I’m so happy to be back for another great year at CRLC. I love working with both toddler and preschool classrooms and enjoy creating a warm, welcoming space where kids feel comfortable, curious, and excited to learn. I look forward to growing alongside your children.
I’m a mom of three, and they’re the reason I shifted into early childhood education. Watching them grow showed me how important these early years are. I’m grateful to be part of that journey with your amazing kids.
Our dedicated teaching team plays a vital role in each child’s growth and development. With a genuine passion for working with young learners, our teachers foster curiosity and exploration in a supportive environment. All are licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and participate in ongoing professional development. We maintain a low teacher-to-child ratio of 2:18, ensuring personalized learning and meaningful one-on-one interactions.
